Udayanga Weeratunge produced before Court

Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga was produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court today (Feb 17).

Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake, last Friday ordered the former ambassador to be remanded until today. Udayanga Weeratunga was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department upon arrival in the country from Muscat after he was deported from Dubai.

The Former Ambassador to Russia is wanted by Sri Lankan Authorities for his unlawful interference in purchasing MiG Fighter Aircraft for the Sri Lanka Air Force from Ukraine.

Udayanga Weeratunga was named a suspect in a case filed over the matter for embezzling millions, through the deal.
