General amnesty for tri forces deserters to conclude today

The General Amnesty period that was declared by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for tri forces deserters is set to conclude at midnight today.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces declared a week-long general amnesty period for Tri-Service absentees to coincide with the 72nd National Independence Day.

Army spokesperson Brig. Chandana Wickremesinghe noted that 6,259 tri forces personnel had rejoined their service over the past 6 days.  This includes 6 army officers, 4528 army personnel of other ranks, 707 personnel attached to the Sri Lanka Navy and 1031 Sri Lanka Air Force personnel.
