Petition by MP Fowzie to be taken up in March

The Supreme Court decided today (Jan 20) to hear the petition filed by former Minister A.H.M. Fowzie on March 23. MP Fowzie filed this petition, demanding that the party general secretary’s decision to suspend his SLFP membership and remove him from office, be nullified

The respondents of the petition are SLFP President Maithripala Sirisena, SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera, the SLFP Disciplinary Committee and 14 others including the Chairman of the Elections Commission.

A bench comprising of Justices Vijith Malalgoda, S. Durairaja, and Gamini Amarasekera is due to hear the petition.
