Consumers complain that the price of Rice in the market has increased rapidly. They noted that most rice varieties are priced between Rs. 100 to Rs. 150 now. They point out that this has severely impacted their food requirements.
State Minister of Trade Anura Priyadarshana Yapa commenting on the matter noted that he had received reports regarding an increase in the price of rice in the market, he noted that in response tpo these reports the Government took immediate steps to 40,000 metric tons of paddy into rice. The Minister noted that it will be available in the market next week via Lak Sathosa.
However, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said, the government has not taken a decision to import rice yet.
