TNA Media Spokesperson and Parliamentarian M.A Sumanthiran says that legal action will be taken against three newspapers for distorting and publishing a statement he made on an election stage.

The MP noted that a newspaper had published a false statement yesterday (Nov 12) stating that “people need to vote for Sajith in order to defeat the Sinhalese” and had attributed the statement to him. The MP stated that he had denied this statement immediately, however despite the denial, the false statement had been published today (Nov 13) as well by two more newspapers.

Sumanthiran noted that he had taken steps to send letters of demand, demanding compensation for defamation to the three newspapers through his lawyers. The MP also noted that he had sent a letter to the IGP lodging a complaint under the ICCPR Act, for inciting hatred between communities.
