BASL request government not to sign MCC

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka says it has been reliably informed the Finance Ministry is in the process of making arrangements to sign the MCC or Millennium Challenge Corporation Agreement today.

A statement from President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka President’s Counsel Kalinga Indatissa requested the Government and the President not to proceed woith the signing of the MCC.

The BASL urges the President to immediately inform the MCC and the US Government , even if the agreement is signed , it would be rescinded with immediate effect.

The BASL says the Finance Ministry has no legal authority to sign the MCC agreement.
