The protests conducted on a roof of Welikada Prison by several inmates ended last night (25 August). The inmates commenced the protest yesterday against their transfer to a different cell.
Commissioner-General of Prisons T.M.J.W.Tennakoon stated that their requests were unreasonable. However, he added that he would be holding discussions with the two inmates today.
Meanwhile, 25 inmates who have been convicted of aggravated crimes including Wele Suda and Kanjipani Imran, have been transferred to the Boossa Prison.
