Grama Niladharis to engage in trade union action

Grama Niladharis throughout the island are engaged in a trade union action based on 13 demands. Accordingly, they will not be using their personal phones for official duties and will halt issuing National Identity Cards through one day service.

The Grama Niladharis are demanding a resolution to their salary anomalies, the provisioning of a service mechanism, an increase of their allowances amongst others. R.M.P.B. Ratnayake, The President of the Sri Lanka United Grama Niladhari Association, said that they had informed the authorities on several occasions, however, the authorities had done nothing to resolve their concerns.
