President shirks responsibility by abolishing PSC: JVP

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) alleged today that President Maithripala Sirisena was trying to stop information on Easter Sunday attacks being revealed through the Parliament Select Committee (PSC) instead of admitting his shortcomings and rectifying them.

JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva told a news conference that people had a right to know who was responsible over the breach of security and that preventing them from getting information on the matter was a violation of their right to information.

“The President is trying to abolish the PSC appointed to probe the attack. What he should do is to admit his shortcomings and rectify them. Mahinda Rajapaksa faction is also supporting the President’s moves by not attending the PSC.

“It is sad that the President is trying to get away from the responsibility by stopping the channel of information. Don’t the people have a right to know who had neglected the responsibility over the April 21 incident,” he asked
