Lack of commuters cause losses to public transport

According to government transport officials, the number of individuals using public transport services has declined considerably since the April 21st terrorist attacks.

General Manager of Sri Lankan Railway, Dilantha Fernando noted that the department suffered a 50% loss in the past few weeks. He added that the daily revenue of Rs 16mn has reduced to Rs. 8mn. According to the GM, there was a large decrease in the number of train commuters on Tuesday (May 15).

Meanwhile, the Deputy General Manager of the Sri Lanka Transport Board, Roshan Chandrasiri stated that they suffer a daily loss of Rs. 25mn-Rs. 30mn after the attack.
