Ruwan appointed as acting Defence Minister until President returns

Non-Cabinet Minister of Mass Media and State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene has been appointed as the acting Minister of Defence until President Maithripala Sirisena returns to the country.

The Department of Government Information stated this issuing a media release today (13).

President Sirisena left for China today (13) to attend the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations in Beijing, China.

The Conference is themed “exchanges and mutual learning among Asian civilizations and a community with a shared future”.

A 27-member delegation headed by the President had left for Singapore at 7.35 a.m. this morning (13) via UL-302 and was slated to board another plane to arrive in China.
