J’pura Uni Student in intesive care after being ragged

A first-year student from the Management faculty of the Sri Jayawardhenapura University has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Colombo National Hospital after he sustained serious injuries at the university.

Pasindu Hirushan obtained 3A’s at the 2018 Advanced Level exams and entered the first year of his degree at the Management faculty of the University this year. A spokesperson for the hospital stated that the student had been admitted to the hospital due to head injuries and internal bleeding he sustained. He has already been subjected to a procedure.

Prof. Sudantha Liyanage the Vice-Chancellor of the Sri Jayawardenapura University speaking to media noted that the student suffered these injuries on the 6th of this month and that the injuries had been caused by a tyre being thrown at him from 2 stories above. The Vice-Chancellor noted that the security at the university had admitted him to the Kalubowila hospital before being transferred to the ICU of the National hospital

The professor noted that an internal investigation is being carried out to ascertain how such an incident occurred.

The University Grants Commission has stated that an impartial inquiry will be conducted into the matter and that all concerned will be dealt with in no uncertain terms.
