The National Water Supply and Drainage Board states that all areas apart from Colombo 5 and 6 will experience a water cut from 8.00 pm today (December 14) until 8.00 pm tomorrow (December 15). Within the same time period, both Colombo 5 and 6 will be provided with water under low pressure. The disruption in the water supply has been caused by a rupture in the main pipeline bringing water from Ambathale to Maligakanda.
The breakdown has reportedly been caused by a construction worker employed by the Colombo Municipal Council while he was excavating a land on which a building was to be built in Dematagoda. The NWSDB stated that as of now the pipeline is leaking.
However, instead of immediately cutting off water supply for the general public, the NWSDB is set to work on fixing the leakage in the night today.
