The Presidential Candidate of the National People’s Power Movement Anura Kumara Dissanayake attended a public meeting organized at Debarawewa, Tissamaharama.

A group including JVP activists attended the event.

Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Presidential Candidate of the National People’s Power Movement:

“The Mineral Sand Corporation was established in 1956, and we can produce the most valuable alloys in the world at this factory. But we still pile up sand. We will take a loan for that and bring in the technology needed for it. Is that wrong? Why do they want to just load the sand?

They do it because they get a commission out of it. The most fragrant and nutritious cinnamon is here in Sri Lanka. 650 years ago Cinnamon was exported like a bundle of wood. Still, it is exported like wood. There is a good industry there.

Cinnamon is no longer sold in its raw form. It can be used to produce different types of oil, it can be used to produce items needs to prepare different types of food.  We will create an industry for that. We will select sectors that are highly profitable and obtain loans to bring down the technology we need for this. That way we can give you the assurance that we will assume the responsibility of getting this country out of the debt trap that we are in.

Also speaking about the issues in the import and export sector. Plans are being made to gain power in brand new fields. Our country can gain access to a large market through the creating of software.

A section of the software at the US Defence headquarters was developed in Sri Lanka. A Sri Lankan company designed a section of the software used at the London stock market.

The software for Sri Lanka’s inland revenue department was designed by a Singaporean company. We believe that within 5 years we can earn US$ 10.5bn in the world market through designing software.

We will create a country rich in dollars. Any country that has large dollar reserves is a rich country, remember that. Poverty is a massive problem, we have experienced this personally.

What did these rulers do for 71 years? They failed to rescue people from poverty. They always sold poverty. What kind of politics do we need in our country? This is a political culture that sells poverty. Let’s create a government in our country that will rid the country of poverty.”
