FCID’s main goal was political victimization : Dr. Nalaka Godahewa

There is much controversy surrounding the former head of the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division retired Senior DIG Ravi Waidyalankara.

After facts were reported to court over a money-laundering scandal involving members of his family, he made a statement to the media heavily criticizing the Police FCID.

The investigation carried out by officers of the Police FCID, the institution he once headed revealed details of connections his family members had with suspects involved in money laundering.

Here are some of the views expressed regarding this issue.

Dr Nalaka Godahewa:

“They took the corrupted route from the moment they started. Their objective from the get-go was political victimization. A lady only second to the Attorney General says that she worked to suppress based on political whims and fancies.

Then about a week later, a former Solicitor General comes and says the same. In detail, he explained how they were given an introduction. How they were asked to carry out misdeeds; how they refused and how they lost the opportunity to have a promotion.

We saw how the head of the FCID, which this government illegally established, came out and confessed how this institution was established and how it was operated.

I can’t remember an era similar to this where the law was bent to this extent in the history of this country. There were dark times, but never similar to how things are taken for a joke now.”

UNP MP Manusha Nanayakkara:

“The FCID’s former boss who spoke on behalf of Gotabaya Rajapaksa was removed because there were investigations against him. His true story is now coming out. Turns out thieves were living with bigger thieves.

While trying to hide details on how the money was laundered, in the MIG deal, he also tried to cover up on how another American national came to the country, carried out a scam through a newly established company together with his wife.

It is when the court was taking this case up for consideration that he decided to clean the image of Gotabaya Rajapaksa and leave the country. The boss sometimes falls ill. Sometimes he delays hearings. Sometimes the judges are changed. So when the boss does that even his supporters start avoiding the judiciary in the same manner. That is what Ravi Waidyalanaka is doing.”
