Train strike enters the 12th day

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation says 30 trains with two power sets each will be in operation from today (October 7). Deputy Minister Ashok Abesinghe said 40 trains are in operation on a normal day.

Accordingly, he said, operating trains with two power sets would provide the office workers travel requirements with little inconvenience. Trains will be in operation to Colombo from areas including Mahawa, Kurunegala, Polgahawela, and Galle.

Meanwhile, the President of the Railway Drivers Union Indika Dodangoda said the railway strike will continue until their demands are met. Which means that today is day 12 of the strike launched over salary anomalies.
