Temporary ID for those without one to use during Election

The Election Commission has taken steps to issue a temporary valid identity card for the forthcoming Presidential Election. It is for individuals who do not have a National Identity Card, Passport, Valid Driving License, Elderly Identity Card, Retirement Identity Card or ID card issued by the Commissioner-General of Registration of Persons.

The Election Commission stated that it is compulsory for such individuals to enter the electoral register to obtain a temporary valid identity card issued by the Commission. Accordingly, the Election Commission stated that relevant applications can be obtained from the Grama Niladhari or the Estate Superintendents.

Meanwhile, the Department of Registration of Persons states that steps have been taken to issue the National Identity Cards to those who do not have a National Identity Card. Commissioner General Viyani Gunatilake said that special attention will be paid to those who have not forwarded applications.
