Gazette notification soon to extend driving licence validity period by three months: Dilum

Transport Ministry has decided to extend the validity period of driving licences by another three months due to COVID-19 pandemic situation, State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama said.

He said the decision was taken as the final extension of the renewal of driving licences and the Motor Traffic Department has also been  instructed in this regard.

A gazette notification to this effect will be issued soon, Minister Amunugama said.

He requested the people to make use of this concessionary period to renew their driving licences, if they have expired.

“The validity period of driving licences that expired from March 16 to June 30 was extended by six months last year. Later it was extended again by three months on two occasions,” he said.

People can visit the DMT main office, Werahera Branch and  provincial offices to renew and/or to obtain new driving licences, the State Minister said.
