A total of eight inmates were reportedly killed and nearly 50 other inmates were hospitalized during unrest taken place at the Mahara Prison yesterday, the Prison Department said.
They said the unrest turned into a riot and in the result of the situation.
The two injured prison officers who were in captive of the inmates were also released, the Prison Department said.
Meanwhile, the police spokesman said in the morning, Prison officials have used force to control the situation and police and STF teams were brought in.
