The hunger strike launched by 37 inmates of the Boossa Prison over several issues is continuing.

The inmates have been on a hunger strike since last morning based on several demands including the relaxation of the existing security measures, Prisons Commissioner General Thushara Upuldeniya stated.

The main concern of the inmates had been the search of visitors, not being able to make telephone calls to their relatives as well as to remove the prison-related searches.

The Commissioner-General stated that if there are reasonable requests, steps will be taken to provide a solution.
