London Stock Exchange reaffirms commitment to bilateral relationship between SL and UK

The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) yesterday reaffirmed its commitment to strong and successful bilateral relationship between Sri Lanka and the UK when the trading body welcomed Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to celebrate the partnership between Sri Lanka and LSEG.

The Sri Lankan Prime Minister was the special guest at today’s opening ceremony of the London Stock Exchange market. On his arrival this morning the Premier received a warm welcome from the staff of the London Stock Exchange.

After the Market Open David Schwimmer, CEO, London Stock Exchange Group, thanked the Prime Minister for his personal support and of his government for LSEG’s presence in Sri Lanka and reaffirmed LSEG’s commitment to the strong and successful bilateral relationship between Sri Lanka and the UK, and LSEG’s role in supporting this.

He also congratulated the Prime Minister on the vibrant economy and the very strong employment numbers which are signifiers of a growing economy and stated the delight of LSEG to host the Invest Sri Lanka forum organized by the Colombo Stock Exchange and Securities Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka.

The Prime Minister then lauded the LSEG’s technology partnership with the Colombo Stock Exchange and global capital markets. He further stated that Sri Lanka is focusing on the internationalization of its economy and is moving forward with the economic reforms to charter through challenging times. He further stated that the Colombo Stock Exchange will foresee positive changes in the future and is looking forward to a strong partnership between LSEG and CSE.

Mr. Ray Abeywardena, the Chairman of the CSE stated his delight on the integral part the LSEG plays on the day to day activities of CSE adding value to their operations through new technology advancements.
