Showery condition expected to continue – Meteorology Department

Due to a low level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, prevailing showery condition is expected to enhance over the island particularly, in the North-central, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and expected to continue during next few days(1st – 3rd October) stated the Department of Meteorology.

Heavy falls above 100 mm can be expected at some places in the Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Western and North-western provinces and in Galle, Matara districts. Showers or thundershowers will occur in the most parts of the island during evening or night.

The Department requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Potuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Heavy showers can be expected at some places in the sea area extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo. Winds will be westerly to south-westerly in the direction of the sea area extending from Colombo to Hambantota via Galle and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.

Winds will be variable in direction in the other sea area around the island and wind speed will be 15-30 kmph. Temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
