Vidatha and Skills Development Officers should guide rural entrepreneurs – Basil

Vidatha and Skills Development Officers should act as pioneers in helping transform the rural youth into entrepreneurs by imparting them with the required knowledge on technology and entrepreneurship, said Presidential Task Force on Economic Revival and Poverty Eradication Chairman and former Minister Basil Rajapaksa.

He instructed Vidatha and Skills Development Officers to encourage the rural youth and assist them to come up as a new generation of entrepreneurs. He added that these officers can play a pivotal role in imparting them with the required knowledge in achieving their goals.

He added that one objective of the Budget 2021 proposal was to develop one entrepreneur from each 14,022 Grama Seva Niladhari Division and it was the role of the officers to identify these capable persons.

He also requested officials to implement the 2021 Budget proposals of the Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation State Ministry and the State Ministry of Rattan, Brass, Clay, Furniture and Rural Industry Promotion at rural level to address the unemployment issue among the youth as its rate had risen during last few years.

Basil Rajapaksa was speaking at the discussion on Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and Innovation State Ministry and State Ministry of Rattan, Brass, Clay, Furniture at the Temple Trees on Monday (28).

It was also discussed at the meeting on the enrollment of graduates as Vidatha Officers to the Divisional Secretariats to fill any vacuum.

The discussion also focused on the expansion of the Vocational Training Programmes to fulfill job market requirements together with the expansion of vocational training at rural level. State Ministers Dr. Seetha Arambepola and Prasanna Ranaweera also participated.
