Budget 2019: Rs 12 billion to rectify pension anomalies

An extra allocation of Rs 12 billion has been allotted to rectify the anomalies existing in pension salaries, Minister of Finance Mangala Samaraweera stated presenting, the Budget proposal 2019 to the House this evening (05).

The Minister mentioned that 560,000 persons have retired before December 31st, 2015 while 71,000 had retired during the time period of 1st of January 2016 to 31st of December 2017.

However, anomalies exist in the pension salaries paid for the retired persons in these two categories, the Minister said.

Accordingly, this anomaly is to be rectified as of 1st of July 2019, while Rs 12 billion is to be allocated for this.

Minister Samaraweera said over 585,000 retired persons will be benefitted from this.
