The Health Ministry has cautioned the general public not to be misled by unsubstantial claims being circulated in the community claiming properly cooked fish could carry COVID-19.

The Health Ministry said there is no scientific evidence to claim there is a transmission of the virus by consuming properly cooked fish.

As it is understood the corona-virus could be present on any surface, the general public is requested not to touch their face when preparing or storing fish and to clean all equipment used for such purposes in a proper manner.

The Health Ministry said it is paramount to wash hands with soap after such process and at all times.

Further, there is no requirement to close down fish outlets and the general public must always comply with the health guidelines, the Health Ministry added.
