Sri Lanka bans public gatherings amidst surge in COVID-19 cases

All public gatherings in the country have been banned until further notice, the health ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

This includes festivities, conferences, public meetings, exhibitions, musical concerts, festivals, parades, and peraheras, the statement read.

It urged the public to abide by the revised operational guidelines pertaining to the COVID – 19 Outbreak for places of employment.

Fifteen police divisions in the Gampaha district will come under a curfew from 6 pm on Tuesday after a woman tested positive for COVID-19.
