PM instructs AG to explore possibility of confiscating the assets of drug traffickers

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Monday (14) instructed the Attorney General to explore the possibility of confiscating the assets of drug traffickers.

The Office of the Prime Minister said the Attorney General was instructed to prepare an appropriate program to prohibit the sale or transfer of assets of drug traffickers.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had expressed the need to implement such a program by securing necessary court orders.

The Office of the Prime Minister said the Attorney General was also instructed to expedite any process required to amend the existing law for the process of confiscating the assets of drug traffickers.

Sri Lanka Police said among the assets of drug traffickers it hopes to confiscate are multiple properties valued at Rs. 749 Million, 89 vehicles, and Rs. 11 Billion in cash.
