All Government schools re-opened: Ministry of Education

All government schools in the island will re-open today (Aug 10), education authorities said.

Schools that were opened following the COVID-19 pandemic and closed once again based on recommendations of health authorities, were re-opened on Monday (Aug 10), Ministry of Education said.

Academic activities at schools resumed today, in accordance with health recommendations and under a special methodology.

According to the Ministry of Education, schools where the total number of students is 200 or less, will conduct classes as usual while maintaining the 1 m social distance.

At schools conducting academic activities from grade 1 to 5, where the total number of students exceeds 200 and secondary schools conducting classes for primary students are to be re-opened as follows:

Monday – Grades 1 and 5
Tuesday – Grades 2 and 5
Wednesday – Grades 3 and 5
Thursday & Friday – Grades 4 and 5

According to a circular issued from the Ministry of Education, at secondary schools, which exceeds the total student population of 200 will re-open as follows:

Monday – Grades 6/ 10/ 11/ 12 & 13
Tuesday – Grades 7/ 10/ 11/ 12 & 13
Wednesday – Grades 8/ 10/ 11/ 12 & 13
Thursday and Friday – Grades 9/ 10/ 11/ 12 & 13

From Grade 6 to 9, classes are to be conducted from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm; while from Grade 10 to 13, classes are to be conducted from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, the Ministry of Education added.

The circular issued by the Ministry of Education further notes, all staff members must report to work starting today.

School canteens are not permitted to open until confirmation from health authorities on COVID-19 being controlled, the circular further noted.
