An inspection will be carried out to determine the quality of Turmeric in the local market, the Consumer Affairs Authority said.

This was following complaints received regarding traders who are mixing flour with various coloring and selling as turmeric in line with the shortage of turmeric in the local market.

“15 samples obtained from across the island were submitted to the laboratory at the Industrial Technology Institute of Sri Lanka, in order to determine the quality standards,” the CAA said on Sunday (Aug. 2).

According to the Consumer Affairs Authority, raids are also underway in search of traders who are selling Turmeric at higher prices than the stipulated amount.

The maximum retail price of a kilo of Turmeric is set at Rs. 750.

“Cases were filed against more than 70 traders over charges of selling Turmeric at prices exceeding the set market price,” the CAA said.
