154 contacts of Jinthupitiya COVID-19 case moved to mandatory quarantine

154 people identified as contacts of the COVID-19 patient detected from Jinthupitiya in Colombo 13 were taken away from the area for mandatory quarantine.

The Government Information Department quoting Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said there is no risk of COVID-19 spreading to the community from the patient detected on Thursday.

The COVID-19 patient was hospitalized, said the Government Information Department.

On Thursday (02) evening Director-General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said the COVID-19 case reported from Jinthupitiya is NOT a case of community transmission.

The Government Information Department quoting Dr. Jasinghe said the COVID-19 patient was detected during the mandatory quarantine process.

The statement said the COVID-19 patient is a Sri Lankan seafarer who returned from Indian and underwent mandatory 14-day quarantine at a facility and did not test positive during the PCR test conducted at the end of that 14 day period.

It added, the seafarer was then subject to a 14-day mandatory quarantine at his residence in Jinthupitiya, Colombo 13 and it was during this mandatory quarantine period he tested positive for COVID-19.

Dr. Anil Jasinghe on Thursday evening reiterated this was not a case of community transmission and the authorities have taken all necessary measures.
