The licenses of bus drivers who operate without adhering to health guidelines will be revoked, the National Transport Commission said.

The Commission added special teams have been deployed across the island to investigate buses carrying more passengers than the number of seats available.

If the number of buses in service is insufficient, steps will be taken to deploy additional buses from the waiting list, the Ministry of Passenger Transport said.

So far around 3500 buses have been registered and added to the waiting list, ready to be deployed if needed, the Ministry stated.

Meanwhile, the Railways Department said steps have been taken to deploy trains to match passenger requirements.

All long distance trains have been deployed for service except for the train plying from Mount Lavinia to Kankasanthurai and the Denuwara Manike inter-city train, the Department said.

The rule to limit the number of passengers to match the number of seats available will be applicable only for long distance trains.
