Schools will be re-opened only once the fight against COVID-19, concludes, according to the Ministry of Education.

“At the beginning of the fight against COVID-19, schools were closed and holidays were declared for the students, therefore, schools will be re-opened only once the fight against COVID-19 is concluded,” said Minister of Education, Dullas Alahapperuma.

He said, the 1st phase and the 2nd phase in the fight against COVID-19 is centered around schools.

A meeting will be held with the Director-General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, on the 26th of May, according to Minister Alahapperuma.

The Minister further reiterated that students will be allowed to return to schools only once their safety is ensured 100% adding the government will never put the students at risk.
