Importing motor vehicles and luxury goods have been completely prohibited, said Joint Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Bandula Gunawardena.

He said there are no restrictions to import essential goods to the country.

However, the Joint Cabinet Spokesperson went on to note importers are advised to speak with their suppliers to discuss credit terms for a period of 180 days with regard to importing non-essential items, required by consumers at large.

Permission would be granted for those imports if importers can reach terms with suppliers on the above, said Minister Bandula Gunawardena.

Joint Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Bandula Gunawardena said the respective gazette notification was tabled by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
