Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva says that 13 out of the 16 new cases of COVID-19 are navy personnel.
He stated of the other three positive patients one had closely associated with a member of the navy and the remaining two had recently returned from Dubai. All new cases are persons who had been in quarantine.
Seven new cases of Coronavirus had been confirmed late last night raising the total number of cases reported in Sri Lanka to 863.
A total of 321 patients have been discharged from hospital after recovery thus far while 533 active cases are currently under medical care.
There have been nine COVID-19 related deaths in the country.
