Health Services DG says all COVID-19 cases not critical

Director General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe said all 34 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka are not in critical condition.

Speaking at the Special Press Conference which took place at the National Operation Center for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak, Dr. Jasinghe said the new 06 cases are , the wife of a  Tour Guide who is currently being treated for COVID-19, a Sri Lankan who returned from Germany, a Sri Lankan who returned from the UK , one person from Kelaniya, one person from Marawila and one person from Udugampala who recently arrived from Qatar.

Dr. Anil Jasinghe went on to note, the Welikanda Base Hospital was converted in to a treatment center and the hospital is now vacated.

He said the Sri Lanka Army is improving the infrastructure at the premises to cater to the treatment process and to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Dr. Anil Jasinghe said the government is providing logistics, vehicles and the man power for all other patients to be transferred.

He said a large number of those who returned to Sri Lanka from Italy are located in Puttlam and special arrangements are in place to ensure they are placed under quarantine at their residences.

Dr. Anil Jasinghe stressed, all confirmed cases of COVID-19 are treated at the Infectious Diseases Hospital.

Director General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe said authorities identified 30 to 40 people who made close contact with the confirmed COVID-19 case who visited the Roy-Tho Big Match and all of them were strongly advised to remain indoors and self quarantine.
