Special Task Force appointed to monitor probe on Easter Sunday attacks

A special Task Force has been appointed on the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to monitor the progress and to ensure the speedy execution of investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks, informed sources said.

The Task Force is overseen by the Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne and the members of the Task Force are, Chief National Intelligence (Chairman), Director-State Intelligence Service, Director General-Military Intelligence, Deputy Inspector General-Criminal Investigation Department, Director-Counter Terrorism and Investigation Division and Director Legal-Sri Lanka Police.

A senior official said that the Task Force is to meet on a weekly basis to discuss and monitor the progress of the ongoing investigation to include scrutinisation of information/evidence, collection of new information/evidence and requirement for arrests and detention of suspects.

The Task Force needs to update the President on the progress of the meetings by submitting a progress report and forward same for the perusal of the Defence Secretary on the same day, the official added.
