Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has called on the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to hand over a report on the 2.5 hour power cut that was experienced by many parts of the island recently, without any prior warning.  The power outage was reported on Monday (Feb 3).

The CEB noted that the emergency power cut was the result of a lack of fuel to run the power generators at the Kerawalapitiya power plant. Although the CEB should take prior approval from the Consumer Affairs Authority to disrupt the power supply, Monday’s power outage did not have the necessary approvals.

Meanwhile, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has once again warned that they will stop supplying the CEB with fuel as they have exceeded their credit limit. The CEB owes the CPC  nearly Rs 86bn for fuel supplied.
