Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) categorically rejected the idea mooted by opposition leader Sajith Premadasa for him to tie up with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in forming a government subsequent to the upcoming parliamentary polls.

Addressing a recent press conference, SLPP Chairman Prof. G.L. Peiris said the country had a bitter experience of coalition governance during the last five years.

“People of the previous government pulled the administration in different directions. It was sheer agony on the part of the general public. Therefore, the formation of a government between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will be the option. It will be the only coalition of harmonious spirit. President Rajapaksa is planning to dissolve Parliament after March 1 thus enabling the Elections Commission (EC) to conduct polls by April end,” he said.

Commenting on the dastardly Easter Sunday attacks, he said the truth was yet to be ascertained. It would come out through investigations launched by the presidential commission, he said.
