Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith had advised the Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa to work with the government in designing and implementing a national programme that should be aimed at taking Sri Lanka to greater heights.

Cardinal Ranjith had made this request when Mr. Premadasa met him at Archbishop’s House in Colombo yesterday.

“ We discussed on drawing up a programme for the national development and cardinal wanted me as the leader of Opposition to work with the government in implementing this programme,” Mr Premadasa said.

Asked whether Cardinal Ranjith discussed the UNP leadership issue, the Leader of Opposition said that subject was not discussed at length.

“ Also the Cardinal was positive of the steps taken by the last regime to re-build the churches which were damaged during the Easter Sunday bomb attacks,” Mr. Premadasa said.
