The ban on domestic passenger flights from Colombo has been lifted after 25 years.

The Civil Aviation Authority states that helicopters could now land at the Defence Ministry grounds in Galle Face. Four domestic airline companies have been granted permission for this purpose following the lifting of the ban.

Over the past 25 years, the domestic flights were not allowed to enter into the Colombo city airspace and were forced to travel across Rathmalana and Battaramulla. The government states that this new decision will lead to a boost in the tourism industry around Colombo.
