Minister of State for International Cooperation Susil Premajayantha commenced his duties at the Ministry of External Affairs today (November 28).

When questioned about the fate of the MCC Agreement, he noted that he cannot comment on the agreement as they have to hold discussions within the government, according to their policies.

He added that a statement will be made following discussions with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the cabinet ministers.

Journalists also questioned as to why they are holding discussions when they clearly rejected such agreements before the Presidential elections? Responding to this Minster Premajayantha noted that there are politicians who “can express their views according to their conscious”.

He added that they plan on protecting and upholding the sovereignty and independence of the country as clearly mentioned in their election manifesto.
