A three-member committee has been appointed to look into the Yal Devi train derailment near the Galgamuwa railway station on the Northern Railway Line. The Superintendent of Railways Gamini Seneviratne stated that the committee has been instructed to submit an immediate report on the accident.

He added that repair work on the damaged railway line has commenced. However, the incident has hindered the operations along the Northern railway line. Accordingly, trains from starting Colombo were restricted to Ambanpola and those starting from Jaffna have been restricted to Galgamuwa.

However, a special bus service has begun operations between Ambanpola and Galgamuwa. The Yal Devi train which travels from Kankasanthurai to Mount Lavinia derailed at around 3.30 pm yesterday (November 27). Five compartments toppled and the track was severely damaged.
