President Rajapaksa released from all indictments filed over D.A. Rajapaksa Memorial construction

The Western Province based Permanent High Court Trial at Bar today decided to release President Gotabaya Rajapaksa from all indictments filed over the alleged misappropriation of Rs. 33.9 million in public funds for the construction of the D.A. Rajapaksa Memorial and Museum.

In addition, the overseas travel ban imposed on Rajapaksa was lifted and the Court Registrar was ordered to release the impounded passport.

The Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar also ordered for all the bondsman who appeared in court and placed bonds on behalf of 01st defendant Gotabaya Rajapaksa to be released from their bonds and also ordered for the cash bonds placed with the court to be released.

Justices Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne ordered the prosecution to inform the court on or before the 09th of January on the measures which would be taken regarding the remaining 06 defendants in the case.

The matter was called up today following a motion filed by Attorney-at-Law Sanath Wijewardena.

Appearing for the Attorney General, Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris informed the court as the provisions of the constitution no civil or criminal proceedings shall be instituted or continued against the President, and therefore requested the court to release the defendant from all charges.
