Former President & current Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa has been sworn-in as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka a short while ago.
The event, graced by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, former President Maithripala Sirisena and many other distinguished guests, is taking place at the Presidential Secretariat.
New Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will shortly assume duties in his new post.
Earlier today, former Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe stepped down from his position and tendered his resignation letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The interim Cabinet of Ministers, which was scheduled to be appointed today, has been put off to tomorrow (22), political sources said.
