Russian training ship ‘Perekop’ arrives in Hambantota

The training ship ‘Perekop’ of the Russian Navy arrived at the port of Hambantota on a goodwill visit.

A delegation comprising the Defence Attaché of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka, Colonel Denis I. Shkoda and a group of officers from the Sri Lanka Navy were present to welcome the ship.

During the three-day visit, the crew members of the ship will take part in friendly sporting events as well as cultural programs organized by the Sri Lanka Navy.

The 138m long and 17m wide training ship has a displacement of 6,900 tons and she is commanded by Commander Roman Pakhomov.

The crew of the ship includes 399 naval personnel and the ‘Perekop’ is scheduled to leave the island for her next port of call on 21st November.
