Test veteran and current MCC President Kumar Sangakkara said that Sri Lanka is safe for England’s 2020 tour. He stated that the situation in the country has “improved dramatically”, Republic World news agency reported.

He also said that Sri Lanka as a country is completely back to normal and are looking forward to welcoming visitors from all over the world.

He also added that the English tour is very significant from the UK’s perspective as many followers visit Sri Lanka to watch cricket and enjoy the country.

The England cricket team is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series next year. The Test series between the two nations will also form a part of the ongoing inaugural ICC World Test Championship. The English tour will begin with a three-day match against Sri Lanka Board President’s XI which will then be followed by another tour game against the same opponent.

The first Test will be played at the Galle International Stadium between March 19 and March 23. The R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo will then host the second Test from March 27 onwards. Sri Lanka are currently placed third in the championship standings with 60 points while England are placed fifth with 56 points.
