Railway strike action enters second day

The strike action launched by the Railway Trade Unions enters its second day today (September 27). The strike action was launched with effect from the midnight of September 25th over several issues including the removal of salary anomalies. The protest is joined by employees of several trade unions including Station Masters, Drivers, Controllers and Regulators. The public was massively inconvenienced yesterday (September 26) due to the strike action.

Despite the strike action, the Department of Railways has deployed 10 office trains to transport passengers from Colombo Fort to their respective destinations. However, on a regular day, 40 office trains are deployed.

President of the Railway Drivers Association, Indika Dodangoda states that until and unless their issues are met with solutions that they will not let go of the strike action.
