In a letter addressed to the IGP, the Mahanayake of the Asgiri Sect Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana thero calls for a proper investigation into the incident where a couple of Samanera monks were assaulted in Horowpothana. In his letter, he stresses that necessary measures should be taken so that incidents of this nature would not be repeated again.
The assault on the Samanera monks was an incident that shook the hearts of the monks as well as the entire Buddhist faction of the country. The Mahanayake of the Asgiri sect further clarifies that if the Samanera monks are at fault for some reason or another that the duty to take care of the situation belongs to the monks. He says that if the Samanera monks had committed fault that it is the duty of the lay people to make sure that an elderly monk knows about the matter.
The letter further reads that the entire Sangasabhawa including the Mahanayake will take necessary disciplinary measures against this incident.
