Sports Minister, Harin Fernando issued a temporary order preventing former Sri Lanka Cricket President Thilanga Sumathipala from holding any office at Sri Lanka Cricket.

According to the order, former Sri Lanka Cricket President Thilanga Sumathipala will not be able to carry out his duties as an executive committee member of the SLC as well as the former President of the Sri Lanka Cricket.

Thilanga Sumathipala will not be allowed to use his influence in the capacity as the former President and will be barred from representing SLC.

The Minister of Sports issued this temporary order due to an investigation which is to be held against Thilanga Sumathipala.

The letter further adds that a tri-partite committee has been appointed to investigate Thilanga Sumathipala following a reported opposition by the Piliyandala Sports Club. Therefore the measures will be taken under the 39/2 sentence of the Sports Act.

The committee will be chaired by the Director General of the Department of Sports Development, Dhammika Muthugala along with the legal officer of the Sports Ministry, Shiromi Ranawaka as the secretary and the retired senior administration officer, S.D. Piyadasa.

The committee is to submit a report to the sports minister following an investigation within a month which starts on September 9th.

The report will conclude whether Thilanga Sumathipala is fit to hold an office at SLC or to carry out his duties as the former president of SLC.
