Sri Lanka to be recognized for eradicating maternal transmission of HIV

A team of World Health Organisation officials have arrived in the island. The special team has been sent to Sri Lanka for a week to inspect the progress of Sri Lanka’s actions to prevent the transmission of HIV from mother to child.

The Director of the Health Ministry’s, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Aids Control Unit, Dr Rasanjali Hettiarachchi stated that Sri Lanka would officially be recognized as a country, that eradicated the transmission of HIV from Mother to Child after this inspection.

She added that Sri Lanka has successfully eradicated the inherent spread of HIV and is confident that Sri Lanka would receive recognition for this as well.
